Shapinsay School

Shapinsay Community School very much lives up to its name and is proud to be part of Island life! It encourages and benefits from some brilliant input from parents and other local volunteers who help the staff to help our young people learn and grow during their term time activities.

The school may only be small, with just 21 children from Nursery to Primary 7 currently enrolled but they are super keen learners – with bags of energy and enthusiasm! Comparing life in ancient Egypt with ancient Orkney, finding out more about the Orkney dialect and exploring Healthy Lifestyles are amongst the many topics they’ve been looking at in their lessons.

They’re a talented bunch too – who love drama and music. As well as putting on their own plays they boast recorder, fiddle, guitar and piano-playing amongst their many skills. They’re pretty ‘cool’ at arts and crafts, cooking and creative writing, too!

Living in such a beautiful location, the youngsters take a big interest in environmental issues and wildlife as well. They also have their own Pupil Council which loves coming up with positive ideas for making an already great school – even better!

We hope you enjoy these pictures of some of the great stuff the kids get up to and that you’ll visit the school’s website to find out more about its inspirational pupils and staff!
